A True Story From Setia Mayuri, Semenyih 🏡
When the owner first came to me, the plan was simple — I would handle the interior design for his house.
But along the way, he found another designer who could do it cheaper. In the end, he decided to try a freelance designer instead.
Fair enough. As a homeowner, everyone wants to control their renovation budget. I completely understand.
Then… about 2 months later, he came back to me. 😅
He told me the drawings were taking too long, the details were not professional enough, and because of that, the site started having quite a number of issues.
So eventually, I took over the project again.
From there, we started going through everything properly — layout, drawings, carpentry details, materials, flooring, curtains and all the little things that people usually don't think about until renovation actually starts.
And then came the funniest part…
The "Sleepy Meeting" 😴
After I completed the carpentry detail drawings, I brought the owner through the materials and laminates I had selected.
One by one.
Laminate A.
Laminate B.
This texture.
That colour.
This finish.
This one for the cabinet.
That one for another area…
And every meeting could easily take a few hours.
At some point, I could see the owner getting sleepy while I was explaining. 😂
But honestly, this is one stage that cannot be skipped.
Because choosing materials isn't simply about saying,
"Okay, this one looks nice. Let's use it."
We need to make sure the material, colour, texture and finishing are all consistent with the design — and most importantly, that what we proposed on paper is actually what we are going to build on site.
The same goes for the SPC flooring, curtains and all the other finishing details.
Yes… sometimes the design process means you have to survive the sleepy stage first. 😂
But when everything is finally installed and comes together exactly the way we planned, that's the part that makes it worthwhile.
And for this Setia Mayuri project, the owner was very satisfied with the final outcome.
From almost losing the project…
to taking it back…
to spending hours discussing laminates while the owner was trying not to fall asleep…
we finally got the house to where he wanted it to be. ❤️
A good renovation isn't just about making a house look beautiful. It's about getting the details right — from the drawing, to the material selection, to the actual site execution.
